The Roman Ermine Street is now the A10 – beginning its northward route just beyond the bustle of Liverpool Street Station. An area subject to intense recent building and with more than its share of skyscrapers, Bishopsgate still retains some historic character. Among the office blocks, pubs and restaurants, one construction constant remains: the enduring power of wood.
Wooden floors remain as popular as ever, for their durability and ease of maintenance in both domestic and commercial properties. They are also unrivalled for beauty - giving an air of class and prestige to modern and period environments.
Subject to the pounding of careless feet, wooden floors can become battered, worn and tired. Carpeting is a tempting response that frustrates the floor’s potential. Far better to engage in restoration from a specialist floor sanding company.
We repair and replace damaged timber, whether blocks in a parquet floor or hardwood boards. Authenticity is our watchword, sourcing matching timber when required to restore period floors.
Sanding floorboards is the core of the process: removing old layers of paint and sealant. We then apply oil or lacquer for a hard wearing or decorative finish.
Whatever your floor - and no matter how poor its condition - ask us for your free assessment. With over 20 years’ experience in working on floors in all settings, we’ll advise you on the best method of wood floor restoration for your particular needs.

Interesting facts about Bishopsgate:
Bishopsgate is a road and ward in the northeast corner of the City of London, extending north from Gracechurch Street to Norton Folgate. It is named after one of the original seven gates in London Wall. The site of this gate is marked by a stone bishop's mitre, fixed high on the building located at the junction of Wormwood Street with Bishopsgate, by the gardens there and facing the Heron Tower.
Originally Roman, the Bishop's Gate was rebuilt by the Hansa merchants in 1471 in exchange for steelyard privileges. Its final form was erected in 1735 by the City authorities and demolished in 1760. This gate often displayed the heads of criminals on spikes. London Wall (which is no longer extant in this sector) divided the ward and road into an intramural portion called Bishopsgate Within and an extramural portion called Bishopsgate Without.
Bishopsgate was originally the location of many coaching inns which accommodated passengers setting out on the Old North Road. These, though they survived the Great Fire of London, have now all been demolished, though the modern White Hart pub, to the north of St Botolph's at the junction with Liverpool Street, is the successor of an inn of the same name.
