If tradition forms the basis of the law, it also prevails in English building. One constant over the centuries is the popularity of timber. This is especially true of wooden floors, where - in buildings old and new - their lasting beauty and durability is matched by hygiene and ease of maintenance.
The ideal floor surface – in homes, offices, chambers, restaurants and bars – timber is the only one that develops character, improves with age and adds value to your property.
They do require care and maintenance - and time, feet and neglect can take their toll. When they have become tired, marked or damaged, it’s time for wood floor restoration from an experienced floor sanding company.
Choose the professionals. Make your floors in Gray’s Inn as good as new with wood floor sanding and polishing services from Sanding Wood Floors.
Sanding floorboards removes the accumulated layers of dirt, paint or sealant.
No longer a messy and disruptive process – the job will be virtually dustfree with our modern cylinder machines. We also minimise any closure and loss of business by working around your schedule – at overnight or weekends.
We provide everything your floor may need: repairs to any damaged timber; gaps filled to prevent draughts; and staining if you need a change of colour.
And we finish off with your choice of sealant: lacquer for wear; natural oil or hardwax for the traditional ‘wooden floor’ look.
Restoration of period floors – such as herringbone and parquet floor sanding – involves finding the blocks to match from reclaimed timber suppliers. Your new floor will have an authentic finish as good or better than the original.

Useful facts about Gray`s Inn:
Gray's Inn Road, formerly Gray's Inn Lane, also spelt without the apostrophe, is a major road in central London, in the London Borough of Camden. It is named after Gray's Inn, one of the main Inns of Court. The road starts in Holborn, near Chancery Lane tube station and the boundaries of the City of London and the London Borough of Islington. From here it goes north and slightly west, forming the boundary between Clerkenwell to the east and Holborn, Bloomsbury and finally St Pancras to the west.
The area of Gray's Inn Road was clearly populated from palaeolithic times and a gravel bed off Gray's Inn Lane (see below) was the find spot for the c.350,000 year-old Gray's Inn Lane Hand Axe in 1679, one of the important artifacts in the emerging consciousness of human antiquity, now in the British Museum. Given the road's height above the Fleet valley, it may have formed part of an ancient trackway.
The manor of Portpool formerly existed in the same area as Gray's Inn, and although the manor is not mentioned in the Domesday Book it came into possession of the Dean and Chapter of St Paul's Cathedral and may have formed a separate estate of one of the Canons. From at least the 13th century onwards it was in the possession of the Grey family, after whom Gray's Inn is named.
