Tradition seems to be the watchword in this embodiment of upper- class London with its gentlemen’s clubs, wine merchants and umbrella stores. Even the famous pelicans in the Park date back to1665 - a present from the Tsar of Russia.
The sweep of Carlton House Terrace, the splendour of St James Palace itself, Marlborough and Lancaster Houses with their magnificent stairways…All demonstrate how timber is the material of choice for features of timeless quality.

Useful facts about St. James:
St James's is an area of central London in the City of Westminster. It is bounded to the north by Piccadilly, to the west by Green Park, to the south by The Mall and St. James's Park and to the east by Haymarket. St James's was once part of the same royal park as Green Park and St. James's Park. In the 1660s, Charles II gave the right to develop the area to Henry Jermyn, 1st Earl of St Albans, who proceeded to develop it as a predominantly aristocratic residential area with a grid of streets centred on St James's Square.
St. James`s Square is the showpiece of St James`s, and in the 18th century was the smartest address in London, ringed with grand houses, most of which have since been rebuilt. On the east side, No. 31, Norfolk House, served as General Eisenhower`s headquarters in the Second World War. No 4 was the home of Nancy Astor, the first women to take her seat in the House of Commons, after which it became the London headquarters of the Free French during the Second World War, and then the home of the Artist Council.
St James's is also the home of many of the best known gentlemen's clubs in London, and is sometimes, though not as often as formerly, referred to as "Clubland". The "clubs" found here are organisations of English high society. A variety of groups congregate here, such as royals, military officers, motoring enthusiasts, and other groups. In 1990, the Carlton Club, traditional meeting place for members of the Conservative Party, was struck by an IRA bomb. See List of London's gentlemen's clubs. In a similar vein, the area is also home to fine wine merchants including Berry Brothers and Rudd, at number 3 St James's Street.
